With Ford back at Le Mans and the hypercar class taking shape, this year's Le Mans is going to be one for the ages.
If you know racing, then you know Multimatic. The company has had its hands all over various race cars through the ages, from Le Mans winners to lower GT-class series.
Before the launch of the new Mustang, Fordteased that it would be going racing. Now, we have further details aboutthe 'Stang's racing efforts.
Multimatic has said that the newFord MustangGT3 car will be unveiled during the Super Sebring IMSA/WEC weekend in March next year. A year after that, in January 2024, the vehicles will make their racing debut with an IMSA GTD Pro entry at Daytona.
Per Multimatic, it will be handling theproduction of the GT3-spec Mustangand the GT4-spec car.
Both will be made at Multimatic's facility in Mooresville, North Carolina. If you're a prospective buyer, and anyone can buy these if they have the will and the funds, the GT4 cars will be race-ready from late 2023.
"Ford has made a bold move in staying true to Mustang and continuing to make the iconic high-performance car while many others are phasing out their competitive products. I was at the launch, and it was a truly exciting event with a never-ending stream of amazing announcements and unveiling," said Larry Hold, Multimatic Special Vehicle Operations VP.
Holt said, "Bill Ford and Jim Farley are racers, and they are totally committed to having the seventh-generation Mustang raced by customers in every class possible, all over the world; it's a fantastic vision. I am proud that Multimatic has been chosen to help execute a part of that vision with the development of the GT3 and GT4 cars. But as Mr. Ford stated as he closed the evening of celebrating the new car's launch, what Ford really wants is to be back at Le Mans, this time with Mustang! Ditto from my side of the partnership."
From the sound of things, Ford is again headed back to Le Mans. The GT classes at Le Mans are among some of the most competitive in the field, and next year's race will surely be one to watch. It's the 100th anniversary of Le Mans and not to be missed.
As we know, multiple manufacturers and brands have been gearing up for the race's new Hypercar class, with BMW, Cadillac, and others returning to Circuit de la Sarthe. With Ford there, too, we might just have to snag some tickets.
