Lightning production has increased threefold since the factory went online.

Customer wait times for theFord F-150 Lightningare about to become shorter, as the Blue Oval announced the restart of production at the Rouge Electric Vehicle Center.

Contrary to a previous downtimedue to battery fires, the recent production shutdown was strategically planned to expand and retool the plant toincrease production output。目标capacity is 150,000 vehicles by the end of the year - three times its original capacity.

Ford wants to replenish dealer inventory, which has been a struggle since the truck's launch last year.

Chief customer officer of Ford's Model e unit, Marin Gjaja, toldAutomotive Newsthat customer wait times are now three months - a huge decrease from the two-year wait when the electric truck was launched.

The holdup delayed deliveries during summer, which Ford wants to accelerate by ramping up production. This will be done via equipment that automatically measures and validates exterior body fit for margin and flushness precision - new tooling that supports Ford'squest for high quality in its vehicles

Moreover, an additional 1,200 employees are currently in training. At the same time, battery production at the Rawsonville Components Plant and the Van Dyke Electric Powertrain Center, both in Michigan, is being ramped up to match the rate at which the trucks are being produced.

The Rouge Electric Vehicle Center is set to produce 70,000 F-150 Lightnings for the rest of 2023 - to be delivered to US customers and globally.

"We are all looking forward to getting these F-150 Lightning trucks into the hands of our customers - from the U.S. to Norway," said Debbie Manzano, director of manufacturing at Ford.

There has also been a surge in demand for the F-150 Lightning due to therecent reduction in pricing, which saw a decrease of as much as $10,000. According to Ford, the price adjustments resulted in a threefold increase in website traffic, while orders increased sixfold.

Ford also plans to add several trim levels to meet customers' demands. The specifics of the additional trim levels were not disclosed.

"We have learned a lot from our first-ever EV truck customers, including a preference for technology and visual differentiation," said Gjaja. "We continue to refine the F-150 Lightning lineup to make the jump to an EV truck an easy choice for customers."

Ramping up Ford F-150 Lightning's production couldn't come at a better time as rivals have been emerging to challenge its dominance. Looking at thereservation count, the Chevy Silverado EV will be popular, while the long-awaited Tesla Cybertruck will finally reachmass production next year
