Tesla Cybertruck Mass Production Starts Next Year

While its Texas plant is retooling, release candidate units are already being produced.

Tesla's Q2 earning call for 2023 has revealed that the mass production for the highly anticipatedCybertruckwill start next year, despite the company celebrating thefi的生产rst truckat its Texas Gigafactory this past week. Factory tooling is also on track, and release candidate units are already being produced, of which the aforementioned truck was probably one.

On the flip side, Tesla has admitted that developing and preparing the electric-powered truck's production has driven up its operating costs. It wasn't detailed just by how much, but the Texas-based company revealed a 9.6 percent operating margin in Q2 2023.

But while initial production will occur stateside, the pickup will also be sold in other parts of the world. The regions that will be getting the electric truck were not specified, but the Tesla Q2 2023 update indicated that it is already slated for final certifications and validations in those yet-to-be-named territories.

When asked about the demand for the Cybertruck, Tesla CEO Elon Musk claimed that it's "so far off the hook, you can't even see the hook." He also tempered customers' expectations for this model since it will be using a lot of "new technology."

About the repairability ofmegacasted vehicleslike the Cybertruck, Musk mentioned jokingly that maybe that's why "everyone is copying us."

Tesla Executives further implied that the Cybertruck might be easier to fix than traditionally-produced vehicles by saying the latter's repairability is "overestimated."

The streamed call also mentioned "Dojo." According to Musk, it's a new artificial intelligence project claimed to aid the carmaker's Full-Self Driving feature. Specifically, it is designed to lower the costs of neural net training.

As a side note, the brand previously reported revenue of $24.93 billion. It has also delivered a total of 466,140 cars and produced a total of 479,700 units in the second quarter of 2023 alone. According to Tesla, this quarter's revenue saw a year-on-year increase of 46%. So yes, on the subject of price cuts, they appear to betotally worth it, as these have been a massive driving force in Tesla shifting so many units.
