Electric Ford Explorer Will Do What No EV Has Ever Done Before To Prove Itself

It's set to circumnavigate the globe in an EV first.

While the all-new EV version of theFord Explorerwon't be launched in North America, the all-electric crossover will still make its way here. Adventure travel content creator Lexie Alford will drive the Explorer EV through six continents and over 30 countries to become the first person ever to circumnavigate the globe in an EV.

Alford is no stranger to this challenge, given she is the youngest person to visit every country in the world. She is channeling the adventurous spirit of Aloha Wanderwell, who went around the world in the 1920s in a certain Ford you may have heard of, theiconic Model T.

The journey began on September 8 in Nice, France, from Le Hotel Royal - the exact place Wanderwell took off from a century ago. Along the way, she'll likely face a few tricky tests, one of the main obstacles being looking for charging stations in areas lacking a comprehensive EV infrastructure.

The Ford Explorer EV, whichshares underpinnings with a Volkswagen, is a pre-production model and does not have special modifications. Although, a crew will be backing Alford for security, medical, and technical assistance.

Ford claims that charging the Explorer EV from 10 to 80 percent would take about 25 minutes only using a DC fast charger. While charging, Alford could grab a snack before getting back on the road for the world-record trip. She would have to make a stop for charging approximately every 300 miles at most based on the predicted range.

"This is an epic journey to prove what's possible in an electric vehicle, as we know range and charging are the two main concerns people have when thinking about making the switch to electric," said Martin Sander, general manager of Ford Model e Europe. "Lexie will be putting charging infrastructure to the ultimate test; if she can get around the world in an EV, then anyone can use one in Europe, every day."

"This is an epic adventure, but a tough one," said Lexie. "It will be tough on the Explorer and with the amount of time on the road alone, it will be tough on me and the support crew. Any adventure worth having should challenge you though, and I can't wait to explore the new places and meet incredible people to find out how they're trying to make their corners of the world better."

The all-new Ford Explorer EV will go on sale in Europe next summer. It isone of the seven electric cars蓝色的椭圆形公司将在202年发射4. Stateside consumers can still buy the ICE-powered Explorer, also available with a hybrid powertrain.
