Czinger Teases 21C Hypercar Inspired By A Legendary Aircraft

The SR-71 Blackbird remains one of the most legendary aircraft ever, and it will inspire Czinger's latest hypercar.

California-based hypercar maker Czinger has teased an upcoming version of the 21C ahead of its reveal at The Quail. It will be called the 21C Blackbird Edition, and as that name implies, is inspired by the iconic Lockheed SR-71 "Blackbird."

The teaser images and short video were on Instagram, though they don't provide substantial information about the car. We can discern that it will have a dark exterior theme, plus a logo inspired by the legendary aircraft.

In the video, you can briefly see some aerodynamic parts of the car, including the canards, a large front splitter, and the fixed rear wing. It also appears that it won't be based on thelongtail 21C V Max, which was introduced at last year's Monterey Car Week.

Apart from the logo and the dark theme, the SR-71 Blackbird's influence in the 21C remains to be seen. The caption on the social media posts didn't help either:

"The 21C Blackbird Edition is the next step in the American legacy of record breaking success. True invention was the defining characteristic of the Skunkworks team that built the SR-71 Blackbird. Czinger was founded on those same principles and today is pushing the boundaries of innovation to bring America to the forefront of 21st Century automotive technology."

If we had to guess, we suspect that performance enhancements could be employed, which, as a fitting tribute to the Blackbird's status as a Mach 3+ aircraft, could give the 21C a higher top speed.

The original 21C,launched in 2021, is powered by a mid-mounted 2.88-liter flat-crank V8 engine with twin turbochargers coupled to two high-output electric motors on the front axle. Its powertrain components aresupplied by McLaren Applied, which also supports another hybrid supercar, theArtura.

In chorus, the 21C's hybrid setup can produce up to 1,250 horsepower at 11,000 rpm, with an option to reach 1,350 hp. Like theRimac Neveraall-electric hypercar, the 21C's performance figures are mind-boggling, with a 0-60 mph sprint time of 1.9 seconds and a top speed of 253 mph with the low-drag 21C V Max longtail variant.

Whether the 21C Blackbird Edition will retain or outdo this heart-pounding setup is still a mystery. Czinger will reveal the hypercar tomorrow, on Friday, August 18, at "The Quail: A Motorsports Gathering." And just like the original 21C, we expect the Blackbird Edition to be extremely limited, reserved for wealthy clients who can fork over millions of dollars at a snap.
