Chinese Automaker Makes Electric Pickup Before Tesla

Aside fromowning a few notable brands such as Volvo, Polestar, and Lotus, there are very few reasons why American car enthusiasts should know much about Chinese automaker Geely.

The companymakes some decent-looking cars, but none of them are sold in the United States. To be honest, there haven't been many Geely products we'd want stateside... until now. Geely just announced a new brand called Radar Auto, which will sell an all-electric pickup truck called the RD6.

The RD6 looks to be mid-size, similar to something like a Honda Ridgeline. It will deliver 600 kilometers (370 miles) per charge, though that's likely estimated on the China Light Duty Vehicle Test Cycle (CLTC), which is even more optimistic than the European WLTP standard. On the US EPA cycle, it would likely be rated at around 265 to 285 miles. Which ismore than enough for most drivers.

No pricing is currently available, but Chinese automakers like Geely are known for building vehicles that are far less expensive than their Western counterparts. Production and deliveries of the Radar RD6 will begin in the fourth quarter of 2022, at which point we should have more pricing information.

Radar will later expand its lineup with other electric lifestyle vehicles including more trucks, SUVs and even ATVs. That means Geely will not only compete with theTesla Cybertruck, but thelong-awaited Cyberquadas well. Along with theRivian R1T, Ford F-150 Lightning, and GMC Hummer, this is yet another electric truck to arrive on the market before Tesla has built a single Cybertruck.
