China's Ford Bronco Sport Ripoff Is Not Exactly Subtle

China's motor industry has come a long way in the past couple of years. From questionable quality, to cutting edge technology, Chinese automakers are showing the world that you don't need decades of experienceto build nice cars, but there's still something lacking: originality. The Chinese auto industry is notorious for its shameless copying of other manufacturer's designs, and continues torip off popular Western modelswith impunity. Last year we covered theGWM Haval X Dog, an SUV that closely resembles theFord Bronco Sport. The same company is now preparing to launch this model under a new name, and is eyeing Australia as a possible market. Let the copycat game continue.

The X Dog will now be known as the GWM Haval Cool Dog. This small SUV which also bears a resemblance to theSuzuki Jimnyand Jeep Renegade, was first revealed in concept form at the 2021 Shanghai Motor Show. The Cool Dog sits below the Big Dog, a beefed up version of the Haval Jolion, and measures 178 inches in length, 74 inches in width, and stands 69 inches tall with a wheelbase of 107 inches. That makes this compact SUV 5.1 inches longer than the Bronco Sport. Under the hood, the Cool Dog packs a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing 181 horsepower and 202 lb-ft of torque. Power is sent to the front, or all four tires via a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
