BMW Reveals First Armored i7 Electric Sedan

Whilesome armored vehicleslook like tanks out of an episode ofWalking Dead, BMW has proven it shouldn't always be the case with anew generation of protection vehiclesright from the factory.

The German carmaker has unveiled two new Protection models - theBMW i7Protection and theBMW 7 Series保护相结合,增强装甲construction with the ride comfort, advanced features, and dynamic capabilities you'd expect of BMW's flagship sedan.

The new protection models offer customized defense against firearms or explosives for at-risk individuals, with a VR9 protection classification under Germany's VPAM standards. They meet VPAM BRV and VPAM ERV guidelines and shield against caliber 7.62x54 R ammunition fire, equivalent to VPAM 10 civilian resistance. The BMW 7 Series Protection also includes a self-sealing fuel tank among its standard security features, designed to seal upon bullet impact, preventing fuel leakage.

The weight of BMW'sfirst all-electric armored sedan has also been optimized to ensure superior agility, acceleration, and top speed. The BMW i7 Protection boasts dual electric motors, yielding 544 horsepower and 549 lb-ft of torque, and a top speed of 155 mph.

Meanwhile, the BMW 7 Series Protection features a V8 engine with 48-volt mild hybrid tech, offering 530 hp and 553 lb-ft of torque, and BMW's intelligent xDrive all-wheel-drive system.

Both models feature 20-inch alloy wheels with specialized Michelin run-flat tires for driving at up to 50 mph without air pressure. The 7 Series and i7 Protection also offer various optional features such as a fresh-air supply system, automatic fire extinguisher, lights, radio transceivers, and flag poles.

Both models come with various advanced driver assistance systems, offering information and warnings to support professional chauffeurs while allowing them full control over the vehicle. They also come with exclusive features, including motorized door opening and closing assistance systems, an intercom system for communication without opening windows or doors, and a Bowers & Wilkins Diamond surround sound system for a premium audio experience.

Customers can customize their protection vehicles according to their preferences, with various options for color, upholstery, and features available.

The BMW i7 Protection and BMW 7 Series Protection are set to debut in September at the IAA Mobility 2023 international motor show in Munich, with deliveries for customers seeking specialized protection beginning in December 2023.
