Benz Celebrates Cabrios at Amelia

The Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance took place just a few days ago, packing a wide array of timeless classic automobiles. Among them were a collection of Ford GT40s, Cadillac concept cars and the one-of-a-kind Lamborghini Miura Roadster. But Mercedes-Benz was also on hand to showcase its convertibles over the decades. The German automaker's display honored the 50th anniversary of the second-generation SL, affectionately known as the Pagoda for its styling.

A favorite among first-time classic car buyers, the Pagoda SL of the 1960s isn't as expensive as the earlier Gullwing, but still has the allure of a classic Benz roadster. Along with the W113, as the Pagoda SL was codified internally, Mercedes also brought a 220 S Cabrio from 1956, the newest SL65 AMG, the SLS AMG Roadster and the circa-1910 Benz racecar driven by the German emperor's brother Pince Albert Wilheelm Heinrich of Prussia, among others.
