The Acura Integra Has A Fatal Flaw Enthusiasts Won't Like

Raise those pitchforks and light those torches.

TheAcura Integrais now well on its way to hitting the streets. A few days ago, members of the media headed off to drive the brand's reincarnation of the classic sports compact, and we now havea raft of details on the new Integra. That includes the owner's manual, PDFs of which are now available online.

Insidethe manual for the Integra(no, not the transmission) there's some interesting tidbits on what life with a new 'Teggy will look like, including details on the car's more luxury-leaning features. There's also some disappointing news for the enthusiasts who'll be buying the car.

Unfortunately, it looks like fully turning off driver aids isn't going to be an option on the new Integra. Specifically, we're talking about VSA or vehicle stability assist. It appears the Integra's traction control can be fully defeated, just like the Honda Civic Si,however. Still, given this is a very enthusiast-oriented car in its top trim level, it's disappointing to see you won't be able to turn that system totally off.

Thankfully, there is some good news regarding drive modes. As we know, Acura has four different drive modes (normal, comfort, sport, and individual) available for the Integra, which will also alter the car's adaptive dampers. There's two items of import here.

First, you'll be able to save your preferences in individual mode and have them selected once you start the car. That'll be nice for those who really want to set their car up for a particular circumstance. Second, we get a look at the full list of changes between modes (check the gallery below), including steering weight, engine sound, throttle response, red gauges, no start/stop, and of course, stiffer ride for sport mode. Notably, comfort mode also makes the steering significantly lighter.

Next up is Acura Watch, the brand's suite of safety and driver-assist features. Like many modern cars, that relies on a combination of sonar/radar sensors and a camera mounted in front of the rearview mirror. Should your 'Teggy be damaged at either the front or rear, note the locations of these sensors. They appear to be at risk in a crash and could impact repair costs for owners. That's especially true at the front, which features two sensors very near the corners of the car.

Finally, we have a look at the full list of HUD options for the new sports compact. The inclusion of which is a key difference compared to its cheaper Si-flavored sibling. Owners can choose from one of four options. First, a simple speedo, followed by turn-by-turn nav directions, driver-assist displays, and finally, totally off.

That, combined with the drive mode selector, should make the new Integra feel more like "your" Integra. With this level of customization, we'd appreciate a few driver profiles, but this is an entry-level car. Still, an impressive number of features means the Integra is shaping up to be a winner.
