2024 Mazda Miata Debuts With Substantial Mechanical Upgrades

The DSC Track driving mode will make noobs look like heroes.

Mazda Australia (and Japan) are the first countries to announce the updates for the 2024Mazda Miata, and they are pretty substantial. While none of these upgrades are guaranteed to come to the States, we can't see Mazda USA missing out on all the new track-focused technology, which the Japanese brand says has resulted in the most exhilarating Miata driving experience yet. Those are big words, as there are someseriously iconic Miatas out there.

The most significant additions to the 2024 model are a new DSC Track driving mode and a newly designed AsymmetricLimited Slip Differential(Asymmetric LSD). These new features are only available for models equipped with a six-speed manual transmission.

DSC Track is only available on the flagship model, and it helps you have sideways fun without shunting the car into a tire wall on atrack day. NA, NB, and NC drivers are green with envy right now. Basically, the DSC Track will only interfere when it detects a slide of a spin that is no longer in control. Mazda says the driver still has ultimate control, however.

The Asymmetrical LSD keeps the vehicle stable when turning into a corner by varying the limiting force of slip on the differential gear according to driver input. Mazda also added a lightweight cam mechanism, and the cam angle is set differently for the deceleration and acceleration sides, allowing it to optimize the limitation of force when braking or giving it the beans.

Mazda says that strengthening the slip limiting force during deceleration will significantly improve stability when braking into a corner. Now, most of us know braking while going into a corner is a bad idea, so this system will basically make even ham-fisted drivers look like driving gods.

This force has been incorporated into the car with components like the engine, suspension, and tire behavior in mind, so even experienced drivers can enjoy a car that's said to be more responsive and better suited to driving in town and on back roads.

Mazda also fettled with the accelerator pedal, steering, and engine sound, reporting it has improved the throttle response in manual models. The Miata already had stunning throttle response, but the Japanese giant says it's more about providing a natural feeling when stepping off the gas and modulating speed.

All models will benefit from an updated electric steering system (EPAS) that is said to be more nimble and precise. It also claims to provide a more connected feeling to the road surface. The previous system was good but nowhere near as brilliant as the EPAS systems in Porsches. We can't wait to feel how much of a difference it makes.

权力仍然是提供d by the same 2.0-liter naturally aspirated engine rev-happy engine, producing 181 horsepower and 151 lb-ft. The engine's sound is now fed directly into the cabin, resulting in more aural pleasure.

On the inside, there's a new 8.8-inch touchscreen display with updated Mazda Connect software. Mazda also mentions a new tan Nappa leather interior with double stitching that covers both the seats and dashboard. It's only available on the top-spec model, which can be ordered in combination with a black roof. There are also new wheel options.

The car now also has LED headlights that integrate into the LED daytime running lights. The taillights are also LED, dragging the aging but still sublime sports car into a new era. We still think it looks epic, primarily thanks to Mazda'sdominating automotive design.

The updated car will be available in Snowflake White Pearl Mica, Zircon Sand Metallic, Deep Crystal Blue Mica, Soul Red Crystal Metallic, Machine Grey Metallic, and Jet Black Mica. A new color called Aero Grey Metallic has been added to the range.

Mazda USA has yet to confirm whether this updated model is coming to the USA, or when it will arrive. According to Mazda's press release, Australian and Japanese deliveries are scheduled for the first quarter of 2024.

Since Mazda only produces the Miata in Hiroshima, Japan, it makes sense that all these features would be included in the American model. Miata owners are a loyal bunch and they won't take kindly to receiving a lesser car than the rest of the world.

The 2024 models will likely arrive in the USA later in 2024 after the Australians and Japanese have had their fill of the updated model.
