2022 Toyota Tundra Transformed Into Hardcore Desert Racer

After over a decade, the ruggedToyota Tundrahas beencompletely redesigned for the 2022 model year, and it was worth the wait. The new Tundra is thoroughly modernized with new turbocharged and hybridized V6 engines, more aggressive styling, anew high-tech interior, and enhanced capability to take onAmerica's pickup truck trio. To showcase its capability, Toyota Racing Development (TRD) has transformed the new Tundra into a desert racing support concept truck for this year's SEMA aftermarket show. The result is called the TRD Desert Chase Tundra, and although it's only a concept, it looks ready to tackle the desert.

Based on the 2022 Tundra TRD Pro, the TRD Desert Chase Tundra is powered by a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 engine paired with an electric motor producing 437 horsepower and 583 lb-ft of torque and a ten-speed automatic.

In off-road racing, support vehicles are used to transport the pit crew across the desert and always chase the team race car to provide support if needed. That means they need to be tough and supremely capable off-road to keep up with the race car.

To help the TRD Desert Chase Tundra tackle tough off-road courses, TRD installed a long-travel suspension that uses the Tundra's stock mounting points. The modified truck also features an aggressive wide-body kit designed and manufactured at TRD's North Carolina composite shop. It rides on custom lightweight 18-inch forged aluminum wheels from Method Race Wheels that reduce unsprung suspension weight, wrapped in 37-inch General Tire Grabber X3 all-terrain tires.
