2022 Toyota Tundra Pricing And Gas Mileage Details Revealed

The Platinum and 1794 Edition trims are only offered in the CrewMax body style, making them more expensive than the rest. The priciest Tundra is the 1794 Edition CrewMax with 4x4 and the 6.5-foot bed which costs $61,020. These prices all exclude a destination charge of $1,695. The Ford F-150 has a wider price range as you can spend well over $70,000 on the F-150 Limited SuperCrew.

Toyota has also revealed EPA estimated gas mileage figures for the new Tundra, but only for the less powerful i-Force engine. This is a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 producing up to 389 horsepower and 479 lb-ft of torque. However, it's been detuned to generate 348 hp and 405 lb-ft for SR trims.

This V6 returns 18/24/20 mpg city/highway/combined for 4x2 SR models. All other 4x2 models will manage a similar 18/23/20 mpg. The 4x4 variants will return 17/23/19 mpg for the SR and SR5 trims, and 17/22/19 mpg for other 4x4 trims. By comparison, the 2021 Tundra's 5.7-liter V8 was much less efficient; it could only muster 13/17/15 mpg in 4x2 guise.

Still, the new Tundra can't match the Ford F-150 in this area. The F-150 gets up to 25 mpg combined for the hybrid model, and up to 23 mpg combined when equipped with its 3.0-liter turbodiesel. The 2022 Ram 1500 also offers a more economical turbodiesel, although it's obviously not as powerful as the Tundra's V6. We're looking forward to seeing what Toyota's i-Force Max hybrid can achieve when EPA ratings for this model are released.

As is the case for most truck shoppers, customization is key. These vehicles need to fulfill a variety of duties and, therefore, Toyota has also shared some pricing details for the Tundra's available packages and options.

The TRD Off-Road package is likely to be popular with extras like monotube Bilstein shocks and front FOX shocks offering a 1.1-inch front lift. This costs between $2,115 and $3,085 depending on the model. There are various other TRD Sport packages that are trim-specific, adding items like bigger wheels and a special grille. For example, the TRD Sport Premium package costs $4,280 on select models.

Other options include the Advanced Off-Road Technology package for between $2,620 and $3,600 (SR5 only), the Premium Audio package for $1,145, air suspension for $650 (SR5 and Limited), a panoramic roof for $1,350 (Limited only), and power running boards (Platinum and 1794 Edition trims). By our calculations, it's quite easy to spend over $65,000 on the new Tundra with the base engine.

Pricing for models equipped with the powerful i-Force Max hybrid setup will be revealed closer to the on-sale date next spring. We also expect to see gas mileage estimates for this model before then. However, the first Tundras will arrive at dealerships next month.
