2021 Mercedes-AMG GT Arrives With More Power And A Stealthy Special Edition

The Mercedes-AMG GT and GT Roadster are getting a massive power increase for 2021.

The current-generation Mercedes-AMG GT is getting a spectacular send-off with the new Black Series. With 720 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque on tap, the2021 Mercedes-AMG GT Black Seriesis the most powerful AMG GT to date.

But don't think this means Mercedes-AMG is neglecting the regular GT. For the 2021 model year, theAMG GTCoupe andGT Roadsterboast 54 more horsepower than the previous model, increasing the 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8's output to 523 horsepower. Torque also increases from 465 lb-ft to 494 lb-ft. This enables the AMG GT to accelerate from 0-62 mph in 3.7 seconds - that's 0.2 seconds faster than the previous model.

Mercedes-AMG hasn't just increased the power, as all 2021 AMG GT models come with new standard equipment including an AMG Ride Control suspension with adaptive damping adjustment, electronic limited-slip differential on the rear axle, a high-performance composite braking system and red brake calipers. Other enhancements include a new lithium-ion starter battery and a Race driving mode.

In addition, a new "Stealth Edition" of the AMG GT and GT Roadster will be available with special enhancements including the AMG Exterior Night Package, black brake calipers, a dark chrome grille in dark, darkened headlights, and mixed-size tires with 19-inch matte black Y-spoke wheels on the front and 20-inch wheels on the rear. The coupe version also gets a carbon-fiber roof with dark-tined areas, and the Roadster comes with a black soft top.

As standard, both models are finished in black but obsidian black metallic, selenite grey metallic, and designo graphite grey magno paint options will also be available.

Inside, the Stealth Edition's cabin features some sporty enhancements including AMG performance seats, an AMG Interior Night Package, an AMG steering wheel in Dinamica microfiber with black spokes and shift paddles, nappa leather upholstery in black with diamond quilting, black topstitching, and black piano lacquer or carbon fiber trim elements. Unique badging in the center console lets passengers know they're not sitting inside a regular AMG GT.

Pricing details will be announced closer to the on-sale date when the 2021 AMG GT and GT Roadster arrive in US dealers in early 2021.

With more power and new standard tech, there will almost certainly be a price increase. For reference, the 2020 Mercedes-AMG GT starts at $115,900, while the Roadster starts at $127,900.
