And it's still as fun as before.
When a recipe is as good as the Miata, you don't mess with it. That's why for the2021 Mazda MX-5 Miataand2021 Mazda MX-5 Miata RF, ingredients have only changed slightly to enhance the carwithout ruining its essence. For 2021, the base Miata Sport comes standard with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Speaking of Apple, the Miata can now connect to CarPlay wirelessly, though only in the top Grand Touring trim level.
Mazda also announced new color options for the Miata, both on the exterior and interior. Deep Crystal Blue (not pictured) joins the Grand Touring trim's color roster, as does a White Nappa leather interior option for $300. The Grand Touring trim can also be ordered with a grey soft-top roof for $200.
All of the mechanical components carry over from last year, including the 2.0-liter four-cylinder Skyactive-G engine. It produces 181 horsepower at 7,000 rpm and 151 lb-ft of torque at 4,000 rpm, going out to the rear wheels through either a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters. With a 50/50 weight distribution and a sub-2,500-pound curb weight, the Miata is still among the best sports cars to drive.
Pricing for the Sport trim starts at $26,830 with a manual or $28,180 with an automatic and is only available as a soft-top. The Club costs $30,290 ($30,890 with an automatic) and is also available as an RF model with the power-retracting hard-top for $33,045 ($33,645 with an automatic). Those who opt for a manual transmission on the Club can add the Brembo/BBS/Recaro package for $4,470 ($4,670 for the RF).
At the top of the Miata range, the Grand Touring costs $31,770 ( $32,295 with an automatic). The RF Grand Touring is even more expensive, starting at $34,525 ($35,050 with an automatic). Aside from the new paint, interior, and soft-top colors, the 2021 models will be virtually indistinguishable from the 2020 cars.
Mazda says the 2021 MX-5 Miata will be available in dealerships starting as early as this month.
