McLaren is at the forefront of the supercar world, and cars such as theMcLaren Arturaand 765LT continue to blow us away with their engineering, gorgeous looks, and performance. While the world drools over the British manufacturer's new offerings, some are still infatuated with its older models, especially the legendaryMcLaren F1, which was the fastest production car for a notable period of time, and these days sells forrecord-breaking prices. Issimi has now listed a well-documented 1995 F1 for sale, and to make things even better, this example is one of only seven cars originally sold in the US.

The F1 was developed by Gordon Murray, a South African-born British designer of Formula One racing cars, and set the Guinness World Record for the world's fastest production car at a speed of 240.1 mph back in 1998. The F1 is about the same size as a modern Porsche 718 Cayman and weighs only 2,509 pounds. Under the skin, the F1 features a 6.0-liter naturally-aspirated BMW V12 engine producing 618 horsepower and 586 lb-ft of torque which sends its power to the rear wheels via a 6-speed manual gearbox with an AP carbon triple-plate clutch. This car is famous for its use of a carbon fiber reinforced polymer monocoque chassis structure, and a pure gold engine bay lining to reduce heat.

The drag coefficient on the standard McLaren F1 is Cd=0.32 and the exterior features two electric Kevlar fans to decrease air pressure under the car. In terms of suspension and chassis setup, this British legend includes a double-wishbone system with solid aluminum wishbones created with CNC machines. Keeping this supercar glued to the road is a set of 235/45ZR17 front tires and 315/45ZR17 rear tires specially designed by Goodyear and Michelin. With only seven cars originally sold in the US, this 1995 example is a rare find, and its red paint job and black interior with red accents make it even more sought after. The vehicle is currently with its second owner, and while there is no asking price listed, expect it to be deep into the millions. While we'd all like to lay hands on Gordon Murray's latest creation, theT.50s Niki Lauda, we have no doubt this is the more collectible vehicle.
