$1 Million Chrome Lexus LFA Can't Find A Buyer After Two Years On The Market

Is the chrome really that bad?

On May 2, 2020, we covered the car you see here: Awild chrome Lexus LFAout of Germany. Well, we're back because apparently, there is a point at which a car's gaudiness outweighs how special it is. Andthe LFA is pretty special. Frankly, before the debut of theLexus LC 500, it was the last truly special car Lexus had made. Frankly, Lexus will never make anything like it again. For the vast majority of us, thejaw-droppingly high price of an LFAwhenever one goes up for sale is a limiting factor, to say the least.

Still, it begs the question: Why thehellwon't someone buy this thing? It's got a V10 that sounds more Formula 1 than road car. It looks like a spaceship, and because of the chrome paint, it will likely turn into a death ray when the sun hits it. Who doesn't want a car that sets things on fire?

Then again, perhaps that's part of why it hasn't sold yet. It's been sitting for so long it needs tire savers, after all. But here's the craziest part of all this: that chrome paint isn't paint. It's awrap. Someone could shell out the admittedly ridiculous €1,049,600 asking price (around $1,050,000) and just have a body shop restore the car to its former glory. It's not even a controversial color. The car is just black. That's it. We found some photos on the dealer's site. Forgive the quality. These were obviously taken on a Nokia from the same era as the car.

The interior is more of the same. There's no reason to clown on this chrome car from the inside. In fact, we'd argue that the chrome and red with carbon kind of works. Of course, price is always a factor in these things. As is the fact the car has been sitting. There's likely some deferred maintenance.

Regardless, if that $1.05M sticker is too hefty for you, we're sure a dealer that's been sitting on a million-dollar car for two years will come down a little for a buyer. Frankly, if you're out there entertaining this idea, rock up with 30% down on a cool million and walk out with a Lexus LFA. We guarantee it'll be worth more in another two years. And if you hate the chrome, you can cry about it while listening to your 553-horsepower V10 engine.
