2020 Nissan NV200 Compact Cargo Review: Light Price Lightweight

by Michael Butler

The compact cargo van class is surprisingly competitive in the USA, with brands such as Ford and Ram leading the way with theTransit ConnectandProMaster City, but don't discount rivals from Japan. The 2020 Nissan NV200 Compact Cargo is a frugal machine that doesn't break the bank. Under the hood sits a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder gas engine with 131 horsepower and 139 lb-ft of torque, which means it is relatively underpowered, especially when compared to its competitors. Naturally, this affects cargo and towing capacities, but some new enhancements for 2020, including a larger seven-inch color touchscreen display means that the NV200 comfortably remains in the working van race. With compact dimensions and car-like handling, the 2020 NV200 Compact Cargo is a van ideal for inner-city use.

2020 Nissan NV200 Compact Cargo Changes:What’s the difference vs. 2019 Nissan NV200 Compact Cargo?

The first generation of the Nissan NV200 Compact Cargo steers into 2020 with an array of enhancements and alterations. Of the two trims in the NV200 lineup, the S comes into the new model year sporting a body-colored front bumper instead of the black item it previously had, while both models are now fitted with three ceiling-mounted cargo lamps and six cargo area wall-mounted tie-down D-rings. The most notable enhancements lie within the infotainment system, though, where a seven-inch color touchscreen display is now standard along with full smartphone integration in the form of Android Auto and Apple CarPlay functionality - the first time these have been made standard for vehicles in this class.

Pros and Cons

  • Good value for money
  • Highly maneuverable
  • Light on gas
  • Impressive standard infotainment
  • Woeful performance
  • Unrefined CVT transmission
  • It doesn't carry or tow as much as the competition

Verdict: Verdict:Is The the 2020 Nissan NV200 Compact Cargo A Good van?

In today's challenging economic climate, vehicles such as the 2020 Nissan NV200 Compact Cargo van are making more and more sense for small business owners who need reliability, and affordability when it comes to transport for their goods and services. Sure the NV200 Compact Cargo is underpowered, and it can't load as much stuff as its competitors, but that small four-cylinder engine delivers great gas mileage and with an asking price that undercuts the likes of the Ford Transit Connect Cargo Van, you have yourself a real bargain. Nissan has thrown in a few handy upgrades for 2020, including a better infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The interior of this Nissan cargo van is very basic and not the most comfortable, but it will work fine for trips in and around the city. Yes, its competitors do it better, but for the price of the 2020 Nissan NV200 Compact Cargo van, it is still a bargain.

What 2020 Nissan NV200 Compact Cargo Model Should I Buy?

Whichever trim you go for, you're not going to be spending a boatload of money, and because the top-spec NV200 SV is only a grand more than the base model, we'll suggest treating yourself a bit and getting the range-topper. The SV adds exterior features such as a chrome grille and body-color side mirrors, and rear bumper. On the inside, the SV adds nice-to-haves such as a remote keyless entry system and cruise control. To make your life easier, we would recommend getting the optional rear sonar system, seeing as rearward visibility in this car-like van isn't great. The rear door glass package will also not hurt. With all these extras included, you'll be looking at a cargo van with an asking price of just over $25k.
