2024年起亚痛nto First Look Review: Making The Best Better

First Look

There was very little wrong with the Sorento, but Kia has still handed it a thorough facelift.

When it arrived for the 2021 model year, the current generation of the mid-sized Kia Sorento introduced a larger body, third-row versatility, and all the attributes typical of modern Kias, like a feature-packed interior and bold styling. In Korea, the2024 Sorento facelift has been revealedwith a fresh new face and a more upmarket interior, changes that should soon be reflected in the US-bound model. Mechanically, we don't expect the 2024 model to change much from the existing one, meaning customers here will still have access to gas, hybrid, and plug-in hybrid options, topped by the 261-horsepower PHEV and 281-hp turbocharged non-hybrid derivative.

When Is The Kia Sorento Coming Out?

For the USA, there is no word on exactly when the 2024 model is coming out. However, as a 2024 model, we expect the release date for the Kia Sorento to be before the end of 2023.

2024年起亚痛nto Price And Competition

The 2024 Kia Sorento's price will only be published nearer to its on-sale date, but there should be a small increase over the 2023 model. Right now, the MSRP of the base Sorento is $30,090, rising to $36,690 for the hybrid and $38,690 for the PHEV. The most expensive model is the SX Prestige PHEV at $49,990, so the 2024 equivalent will probably cost over $52k.

If you need a three-row SUV, then rivals will include theHonda Pilot, but that has a higher starting price than the Sorento, as does theChevrolet Traverse. If Kia keeps the price similar to now, the base Sorento will remain one of the most affordable ways to buy a three-row SUV.

New Kia Sorento Exterior And Colors

For a facelift, the 2024 Kia Sorento's exterior has undergone quite a change, particularly in front. In our reveal, we compared the new boomerang-shaped headlights to those of the Cadillac XT4. The latest grille has a three-dimensional pattern and is larger than before, while the hood and bumper have also been altered. These new elements are based on the Korean marque's Opposites United design philosophy.

介绍了新型合金轮设计,h will likely range in size from 17 to 20 inches, as with the 2023 version. There are fewer obvious changes at the back, but the latest Sorento has new Starmap graphics in the taillights. The Korean model will have a special Gravity trim with a bespoke grille design and several black trimmings. It's possible that something similar will be available here.

Overall, the 2024 Sorento remains more angular than rounded and still looks the part of a solid family SUV.

Exterior colors for the Kia Sorento include Interstellar Grey, Cityscape Green, and Volcanic Sand Brown; these names are derived from the natural world and support Kia's Bold for Nature stance, another aspect of the company's design philosophy. Current colors like Ebony Black, Everlasting Silver, and Passion Red could be carried over for US-spec models.

Kia Sorento Dimensions

As this isn't an all-new model, we expect the dimensions of the new Kia Sorento SUV to remain more or less the same. The 2023 version comes in at 189 inches in length, 74.8 inches in width, and 66.7 inches in height, spread over a wheelbase of 110.8 inches.

In front-wheel-drive guise, the base Sorento weighs 3,715 pounds, but that goes up all the way to 4,537 lbs for the plug-in hybrid model at its heaviest.

Kia Sorento Engine And Performance

For the Korean market, Kia only specified that the latest Sorento will come with gas, diesel, and hybrid variants. Kia Sorento engine options in the USA are unlikely to change, which means the base model will have a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine producing 191 hp and 181 lb-ft of torque. A far better choice is the 2.5-liter turbo-four with 281 hp and 311 lb-ft; whereas the non-turbo model has an eight-speed automatic, the turbocharged one comes with a dual-clutch automatic.

The frugal hybrid pairs a 1.6-liter turbo-four engine with an electric motor to make 227 hp and 258 lb-ft combined, while the PHEV has the same setup but with 261 hp combined and the same torque figure. Both hybrids have a six-speed automatic, but only the PHEV gets standard AWD. The gas-only models and conventional hybrid have FWD by default and AWD as an option.

The 281-hp Sorento can manage a 0-62 mph sprint of 7.4 seconds with FWD, whereas the standard 2.5L takes up to 10 seconds to do the same with AWD. The standard hybrid has a 0-62 mph time of 8.6 seconds, while the PHEV needs a fraction longer at 8.7 despite its extra power. This is because the PHEV is heavier than the normal hybrid.

The Sorento isn't intended to be a sports car but to get families to their destination comfortably and without causing the driver any frustration. To that end, the Sorento is an excellent SUV, so we expect the facelifted model to be much the same.

Gas Mileage, Range, and Battery Life

We can look at gas mileage specs from the EPA for the 2023 model to get an idea of what to expect from the facelifted Sorento. The normal hybrid with FWD is by far the most frugal, managing 39/35/37 mpg city/highway/combined. At the other end of the spectrum, the AWD model with the 2.5-liter turbo engine returns 22/27/24 mpg. The base 2.5L sans turbo falls between these two and returns best figures of 24/29/26 mpg with FWD.

Kia claims 79 MPGe combined and a 32-mile all-electric range for the current PHEV derivative courtesy of its 13.8-kWh lithium-ion polymer battery. Charging time for the PHEV on a 240V outlet is three hours and 25 minutes.

Kia Sorento Interior And Cargo

We've had mostly good things to say about the interior of the current-gen Kia Sorento, and that will not change in the facelifted model. It's an environment characterized by superb passenger space in the first two rows and acceptable space for average-sized adults in the smaller third row.

What has changed inside is the design of the dashboard with its dual-screen layout and slimmer ventilation outlets in the center that appear far more upscale than the current model's. In fact, between the new dashboard and the quilted upholstery on the Kia Sorento's seats and door panels, it might just be time for Kia to consider its own luxury arm, just as Hyundai has with Genesis.

Whether the panoramic curved display with its 12.3-inch digital cluster will be standard in the US remains to be seen; this screen flows seamlessly into the touchscreen. Other updates include a fingerprint recognition system and new controls for the climate system.

We can also see that the traditional gear selector has been replaced by what looks like a rotary alternative, and Kia has incorporated some attractive ambient lighting along the dashboard and front door panels. We expect the standard seats in the Kir Sorento to be upholstered in cloth, with leatherette and leather on upper trims. Power-adjustable front seats will continue to be available as they are now. Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a generous suite of driver-assistance technologies will be standard, while upper trims should benefit from equipment like a surround-view camera system and a more powerful Bose sound system.

Cargo space in the 2023 Kia Sorento varies between 38.5 and 45 cubic feet behind the second row. Even the 12.6 cubes behind the third row are quite practical. We see no reason that these numbers will change for the 2024 model when it gets here.
