Zenvo Automotive, the creator of ultra-exclusive hypercars withzany aerodynamics, has announced that it has partnered with Mahle to produce a new hybrid V12 for theupcoming Aurora hypercar．不同于以往Zenvos,由通用汽车-based V8 units, this new engine is entirely bespoke.
The combustion side of the power unit is a 6.6-liter quad-turbocharged V12 engine that produces 1,250 horsepower at 8,000 rpm. It can rev to 9,800 rpm, and once production commences, it will join our list of the highest-revving production engines. As you can see, it's called the Mjolner V12, which could either be a reference to the Norwegian soccer club or, more likely, an (accepted) alternative spelling for Mjolnir, the name of Thor's hammer in Norse mythology.
But the V12 is only half the story. Mahle also designed hybrid components that produce an additional 600 horses, increasing the combined power to 1,850 hp.
Zenvo did not provide details of the electric components but did state that the 600 hp is fed through a 4WD system. This suggests at least one electric motor on each axle. Mahle included the hybrid system to futureproof the vehicle, but the ICE component is compatible with carbon-neutral synthetic fuels, further ensuring overzealous politicians can't ban the Zenvo Aurora.
According to Zenvo, the engine will be carefully tailored to the needs of the end customer while meeting stringent emissions requirements in the USA and Europe. The engine will use all-aluminum construction, while Zenvo will lend its expertise in carbon fiber production to further lighten the power unit. It will use Mahle's Jet Ignition, which removes the need for over-fueling for engine protection across the entire operating range.
"As an automobile enthusiast and industry professional, I have always strived to achieve the pinnacle of powertrains in the form of a V12 engine," said Zenvo's chief commercial officer and chairman of the board, Jens Sverdrup. "The unmatched emotions and sensations it evokes, are what sets it apart as the ultimate choice for supercars and hypercars."
Zenvo stated that this new engine was designed with modularity in mind and that high-performance V8 and V6 engine derivatives could be used to produce future Zenvo models. Zenvo even hinted at these powertrains becoming available as crate engines, taking the fight directly to Edelbrock, Chevrolet, Ford, and Mopar.
"Collaborating with Mahle Powertrain, the most adept and knowledgeable engine developers in the industry for V12s, has been a dream come true for me. And judging by customer feedback, it is a dream shared by every automobile enthusiast out there," said Sverdrup.
Not much is known about the Aurora at this stage, but it has been confirmed for a 100-unit production run split into Agil and Tur models for track and GT duty, respectively. A reveal is scheduled next month, and the Aurora will have a top speed of more than 248 mph. 30 units are already spoken for, and if it can deliver a package that looks as good as its power figures sound, Zenvo could sell the rest pretty quickly.
It may be in contention for thefastest car of all time, and we're confident it will be part of the new breed of hypercar that costs well over a million dollars.
