Your Next Jeep Or Dodge Could Have An All-New Engine

If you look under the hood of most mainstream products from Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA), you are likely to find the company's 3.6-liter V6 known as the Pentastar. This award-winning engine was introduced back in 2011 and can now be found under the hood of dozens of FCA vehicles including the DodgeChallengerandCharger, JeepWrangler, and more.

But a little over one year ago, a rumor emerged claiming FCA was working on a新的inline-six引擎to replace the Pentastaras well as a turbocharged versionto replace the company's 5.7-liter V8 and serve in a number of SRT, Alfa Romeo, and Maserati products. Now, according to aUnited States Patent and Trademark Office(USPTO) filing uncovered byMopar Insiders, the rumors of a new inline-six may be true.

FCA applied for the patent way back on November 1, 2017, but it was only granted by the USPTO more recently on April 2, 2019. Patent number 10,247,142 even includes a diagram of the engine, which clearly depicts a six-cylinder in an inline configuration. According to Mopar Insiders, the engine code of this new inline-six will be GME-T6, which could mean it will be derived from the turbocharged four-cylinder GME-T4 engine used in the Alfa RomeoGiuliaandStelvio.

The publication also cites inside sources who claim the GME-T6 will be available with multiple output levels ranging from around 360 horsepower up to 525 horsepower. This new engine is also expected to use FCA's upcoming eBooster technology, which uses electrically-boosted turbocharged to reduce turbo lag.
