Watch The 2023 Honda Civic Type R Hit The Streets

Thankfully, this was long enough for our spies to get some new photos of Honda's hot hatch in action as it attacked the Green Hell. The track was slightly wet, which may explain why Honda decided to stop testing after just one lap unless there were issues with the prototype that needed resolving.

The new Civic Type R was also caught on video by our spies cruising on roads outside the Nurburgring, allowing us to see the hot hatch on the move for the first time. Sadly, it doesn't get pushed very hard. It doesn't sound as aggressive as we hoped either, but it's difficult to judge when the engine is running at low revs.

Hopefully, it won't be long until we see the new Civic Type R on video in attack mode at the Nurburgring. Visually, the new Civic Type R prototype looks more aggressive than the regular hatchback thanks to its prominent rear wing, large front air vents, and a central exhaust with three tailpipes.

However, the styling looks more restrained than the last-generation Civic Type R, which may divide opinions. Under the hood will likely be the same 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four engine found in the current Civic Type R uprated to around 320-340 horsepower, with power sent to the front wheels. If so, that means the next-generation Civic Type R will be even more powerful than the new Golf R, so it should be worth the wait.
