Volkswagen Pizza Blast Coming As Ready-Made Food Truck

Rumor /2 Comments

Pizza Blast could be a specialist commercial vehicle straight from the factory.

Volkswagen is bracing itself for the electric revolution, already offering several EVs across the world. In the United States, consumers have just one electrified VW to choose from, theID.4. That's set to change soon, with the highly anticipatedID.Buzzexpected to arrive sometime next year. The utilitarian shape and large cabin would make it an ideal delivery vehicle.

In fact, Volkswagen has already shown us what this would look like, treating the ID.Buzz Cargo concept vehicle to a unique livery. Finished toresemble Nike's first delivery vehicle(a VW Type 2 Bus), the battery-powered van is certainly the most desirable commercial vehicle we've seen in a while.

Discovered byCarBuzz, the German company recently filed a trademark by the name of 'Pizza Blast'. Could this be a sign that more specialized delivery vehicles are on the way?

Running purely on electricity, the ID.Buzz would be an eco-friendly way of delivering hot pizza, quickly. The size does count against it, though - pizza delivery drivers favor smaller cars that are easier to park and maneuver. But the larger body of the electric bus could be perfect to serve as a mobile pizza oven, in the same vein as food trucks.

While it may sound far-fetched, small businesses often have to pay hefty sums to have regular vans or trucks converted into specialty vehicles. Perhaps Volkswagen is hoping to offer consumers a range of tailor-made commercial vehicles, to suit everyone's needs. In fact, it's not too far off what Mercedes offered in the 80s with its E-Class.

You could purchase a regular model, but the brand could also sell business customers specially prepared derivatives from the factory, with ambulances, police vehicles, limousines, and taxis all available.

If the Pizza Blast moniker is to be used for a future ID.Buzz-based commercial vehicle, it would join the aforementioned Nike-liveried example and several other commercial concepts VW has alreadydreamt up for the autonomous future. With a cavernous interior, Volkswagen would be able toadapt the large spaceto suit any number of needs, from an ambulance to traditional delivery vehicles and, perhaps, maybe a mobile pizza truck. Only time will tell.

What we do know for now is that the ID.Buzz, first seen in 2017, will have a total range of 300 miles between charges, with more than one battery size and all-wheel drive as options. It's likely Volkswagen will utilize the electric drivetrains it already applies to the ID.4, meaning consumers can most likely expect 201-horsepower from the single electric motor, with the more powerful all-wheel-drive derivative gaining 295 hp, as seen in the ID.4 GTX.
