Volkswagen's modular electric drive matrix (MEB) platform is a treasure trove of imaginative possibilities. This platform will underpin the upcoming2021 Volkswagen ID.4electric crossover, but the possibilities for it are endless. As MEB is scalable, VW could theoretically turn it into any other vehicle without a ton of development work. In fact, the automaker has already expressed interest inbuilding an electric sports carbased on this platform.

We'd love to see VW use the MEB platform to bring back one of itsawesome hatchback coupe modelslike the Scirocco orthe Corrado. While these seem unlikely, we could foresee VW bringing back the iconic Beetle as an EV model. Rendering artist Kleber Silva must have been thinking along the same lines because he just rendered what such a car might look like.

Silva clearly takes inspiration from the previous-generation Beetle, which sold from 2011 to 2019 but rolls in more modern VW design cues. The rear grille differs greatly from the old Bettle, using the same hexagonal elements shown on a number of recent VW concept cars. Along with some smoked headlights, this electric Beetle looks far more aggressive than the old model.

The last-generation Bettle was offered with retro-style wheels that emulated old-school hubcaps, but this new model appears to go in a sportier direction with a wheel design from a vintage Porsche. At the back, Silva completely changed the Beetle's roofline and taillights, giving it a less bubbly shape. He also added a spoiler for good measure.
