This is seriously cool.

The team over at Flat Out Autos gained popularity last year with its custom-built Chevrolet K5 Blazers. Based on the Chevrolet Tahoe SUV, these boast retro styling complete with old-school headlights, chrome bumpers, and the signature Chevrolet radiator grille. Originally, just one was built for the2019 SEMA showbut was so well-received that the Arkansas-based custom shopbuilt four more for one buyer.

Not satisfied with its achievements, Flat Out Autos previewed a new idea: a two-door version of theGMC Sierra 1500with a detachable roof. Although it's just a digital render for now, the company posted the picture to Facebook to gauge people's thoughts and announce that it is becoming a reality. Based on the comments, this GMC build will be well-received.

The custom shop plans to offer the full package to would-be buyers, offering a two-door body with a removable roof, tailgate, and four-wheel drive - much like a modern-day incarnation ofthe original K5 Chevy Blazer. Flat Out Autos says that, if you're interested, you can contact them to get on the list.

While there's no word yet on pricing, we can't imagine this conversion being cheap. The K5 Blazer-style conversion - based on a modern-day Tahoe or Yukon - costs customers a considerable $69,000 for the retro conversion, excluding the price of the donor car itself. The build does, however, include parts, labor, and a respray.

The GMC 1500 seems to be a great base for the project. With a starting price of $31,200, the pickup truck is available with a torque-rich 3.0-liter turbodiesel engine mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission. If you're looking for more power, we're willing to bet Flat Out Autos would be all too happy to convert one of the more expensive derivatives equipped with the powerful 6.2-liter V8 engine.

More importantly, the company will be offering its upcoming project with retro K5 Blazer looks too. As a unique off-roader with classic stylingand modern underpinnings, this could be an incredibly cool, if pricy, addition to any car collection.
