This is revolutionary.
Koenigsigg raised the bar in wheel production when it released its 100 percent carbon fiber wheels. That was somewhat unsurprising, for Koenigsegg produced $1,000,000-plus hypercars, and the cars needed an equally high tech and expensive wheel. Surprisingly, Ford is following suit, as it was just announced that the Shelby GT350R will have full carbon fiber wheels. This will be the first mass-produced carbon fiber wheel, and it looks amazing. The dark coat gives this rim an exotic, yet muscular look.
Not only are these rims badass, but they are also extremely light. Produced by Australian company "Carbon Revolution," they weigh just 18 pounds each. That is a 15 pound decrease from the standard 33-pound wheel, saving an overall 60 pounds. The decrease was so drastic that Ford had to reconfigure the magnetic ride control in order to maintain a balance. Ford assures us that these wheels have been meticulously created to ensure durability and avoid brittleness. During testing, the GT350R's rotors reached temperatures as high as 1,652 degrees Fahrenheit and the wheels have also proved to hold up. This hot new piece of tech is just another reason to pick up a sexy GT350R.
