The Next Genesis G90 Will Drop This Awesome Feature

Anyone ordering a new2021 Genesis G90年代edan currently has achoice between two engine options: a 3.3-liter twin-turbocharged V6 producing 365 horsepower and 376 lb-ft of torque, and a 5.0-liter V8 with a throatier 420 hp and 382 lb-ft of torque. Though it produces far more power, the V8 isn't any quicker than the turbocharged V6 because it is much heavier. With the fuel economy penalty, it doesn't make much sense to get the V8 anymore.

We weren't that surprised then to see the Genesis G80 drop the "Tau" V8 from its roster. And if a rumor from Korean publication Auto Daum is to be believed, the G90 will soon lose this option as well. Hyundai Motor Group has already announced it willcease development of internal combustion engines, so it looks like the Korean V8 is gone for good.

The next-generation G90 (pictured here) was recently年代potted testing wearing heavy camouflage. This Genesis flagship model is due for a replacement, as the current model was simply a facelifted variant of the G90 that arrived in 2017. We expect this new version to retire both of the existing engines. The 3.3-liter V6 should be replaced by the latest 3.5-liter unit found in the G80 and GV80, while the V8 will not get a successor.

The Tau V8 debuted back in 2008 as a 4.6-liter engine under the hood of the Kia Borrego and Hyundai Genesis. News of its demise is slightly disappointing, but Genesis has other ideas in mind for the G90.
