The Auto Industry Will Get Roasted This Month As 'American Auto' Sitcom Airs

But it needs to be poked at once in a while.

You know your industry is relevant when someone creates a show parodying it. In modern times it started withThe Officeand then cameParks and Recreation.Following life in a retail chain,Superstorewas also great and the people who brought us that - as we discovered back in January - are bringing usAmerican Auto, premiering December 13 on NBC.

This 30-second clip premiered Tuesday, and it looks to at least be winking at General Motors with a tough-talking female CEO in this boardroom clip. The group is naming the Payne Motors company's first EV, which makes us imagine the room where execs named theCadillac Lyriq. They landed on Ponderosa until the CEO asks if it means anything weird in Spanish. They crack a joke about the Chevy Nova and Mitsubishi Pajero, before realizing that none of them speak Spanish either, to double-check the name.

In the description, it explains that the show "takes the wheels off the automobile industry. Set in Detroit, the corporate executives of Payne Motors are at a crossroads: adapt to the changing times or be sent to the junkyard. Shaking things up is the new CEO, whose leadership, experience and savvy is only slightly offset by her complete lack of knowledge about cars. Luckily, her team has some of the best minds in the business - when they aren't fighting or trying to outwit each other. From the corporate office to the factory floor, the crew of Payne Motors is driving home the laughs."

So maybe not exactly likeMary Barra, because she does seem to know her stuff, but we're definitely excited to seeSaturday Night Live'sAna Gasteyer as CEO Katherine Hastings.

There are a lot of spots to mine for comedy in the boardroom. In addition to the naming, we could see the team informing the fearless leader about an imminent recall. They could also tell her about astinky auto plant down the block. Even a "we're out of computer chips" storyline could be funny. And that's just the boardroom. Imagine the plant floor, the dealership, and the ad agency.

The next best thing to competitive car content on TV is comedic car content, so we're hoping this is good. There are a few other actors we recognize and like we said the people that are creating this have made good comedies before. We'll be watching on the 13th.
