斯巴鲁's Record Sales Streak Ends, But Forester Is Still Flying

Industry News /4 Comments

Tough SUV remains Subaru's most popular model.

The COVID-19 pandemic has had an inevitable impact on new car sales, but not every automaker has had only bad news to report. In May, for instance,斯巴鲁sold 17,859 Forestersin the US, which was the model's best May ever. For the month of June, theForesterperformed even better, racking up 19,490 units, which is the model's best June ever.

However, despite this positive news, Subaru still recorded an overall decrease of 12 percent in June relative to June 2019, with 53,911 vehicles sold. And, following eleven consecutive years of sales records, the automaker's year-to-date sales of 267,110 represent a 21 percent drop compared to 2019.

These results were attributed to the ongoing pandemic and general uncertainty about economic recovery, likely leading to many people delaying the purchase of a new vehicle. That being said, Thomas J. Doll, the President and CEO of Subaru America, remained optimistic. "Our June results are a testament to the perseverance of our retailers, who overcame difficult circumstances to achieve our sales target," he said.

Jeff Walters, the Senior Vice President of Sales, said: "We are pleased to close June with strong sales in the midst of a competitive market limited by the pandemic."

The only other Subaru models to perform better last month than in June 2019 were the Forester, the WRX/STI, and the BRZ. Losing out the most was the斯巴鲁Outback, which registered a 41.5 percent drop in sales compared to last year. However, it was still the brand's second top-selling model in June 2020 and for the year so far, no doubt benefitting fromseveral attractive incentivesoffered by the brand recently.

The Crosstrek also continues to sell well, with 10,241 units in June and 45,732 sold this year so far. Not faring as well was the rather anonymous Subaru Legacy, which found only 2,054 homes last month. Butjust like Hyundai, Subaru appears to be weathering the storm of the economic downturn thanks to strong SUV sales.
