As well as an official website for VW's newest brand.

Volkswagen is getting into the EV off-road SUV business with the upcoming debut of therevived Scout Motors brand, which has not existed since the 1980s. Scout will fall under the Volkswagen Group umbrella, and now, the automaker has released a new teaser image of the upcoming concept version and launched the officialScout websiteandfan forum. The teaser shows a front end with SUV proportions, a firm stance, and appropriately-sized tires.

For those who don't recall, the Scout nameplate was famous back in the '60s and '70s, thanks to the International Harvester brand. The off-roaders still have an intensely loyal fanbase, andVW is including them in the design process. VW's take on the Scout will consist, at least initially, of an EV truck and SUV.

Production is slated to kick off in 2026, and the prototypes are due sometime next year; hence the official website launch is happening now.

Based on the previous sketches, the vehicles' design is boxy and reminiscent of the original. One critical fact we learned last month was that these off-roaders would not utilize VW's MEB platform, which underpins several VW EVs, including theID.4andID.Buzz.

Instead, the German automaker confirmed the Scout vehicles will ride on a "new technical platform concept, which brings new pickup and RUV credibility beyond the existing Volkswagen Group portfolio." Along with the official website, a new forum has arrived that will enable Scout to communicate directly with fans and, hopefully, future customers.

The company will use this platform to provide updates and allow members to offer feedback and suggestions. Scout points out this is a unique approach since automakers "rarely get the opportunity to engage consumers this early in the design process."

Former VW North America CEOScott Keogh, who's now CEO of Scout, stated, "We started this forum to nurture an open dialogue with our community members, to hear what they expect in all-new Scout vehicles, and to build a central location where past, present, and future Scout enthusiasts can come together as one."

VW acquired the Scout moniker when its Traton truck division assumed control of Navistar International, once known as International Harvester, back in 2020.
