RTR Spec 5 Is Your 750-HP Shelby GT500 Alternative

In the annals of Furd tuners, and particularly those who like to fiddle and fettle with the Ford Mustang, you have the legends like Shelby and Roush, but you also have newer icons like RTR - the brainchild ofpro drifter Vaughn Gittin Jr.In case you forgot who that is, he's the same madman that builtFord's insane 1,400-hp Mustang Mach-E.

Previously launched to celebrate the company's 10th anniversary, with onlyten constructed to commemorate the occasion, the RTR Spec 5 Mustang is now available to the mass public for the first time. In understanding the RTR hierarchy, Spec 5 translates to the most powerful, most extreme gasoline-powered Mustang ever built by RTR.

The headline figures are impressive, with 750 horsepower making the RTR Spec 5 about as close to a Shelby GT500 as possible from the aftermarket. All it takes is $37,495 plus a donor car. But the end result is well worth it.

That 750 hp is courtesy of a Whipple supercharger system which affords the muscle car 615 lb-ft - a substantial improvement over the standard outputs of the 5.0-liter Coyote V8 in theMustang GT. This can be installed on either manual or automatic-equipped cars, but only the stickshift gets an RTR shift knob. Making the power is easy; putting it down to the ground is the hard part.

To ensure it all gets there, RTR equips Tactical Performance lowering springs, front and rear sway bars, and adjustable shocks with a new shock mount kit. You can optionally upgrade this to a Tactical Performance coilover setup, though, or if your car came with MagneRide suspension from the factory, RTR will fit Ford Performance Springs.

20-inch Tech-7 design two-piece forged alloys measuring 20 inches in diameter are sod in high-performance Nitto NT555 G2 tires.

The Spec 5 looks the part, too, with RTR's signature grille with LED lights included as standard. A full body kit is applied to the 'Stang, comprising a front spoiler, bumper inserts, hood extractor vents, and beefy widebody fender flares at either end.

At the rear, an RTR decklid panel has a dedicated gurney flap, the rear quarter panels feature their own splitters, and a chunky rear diffuser adds some menace to the quad tailpipes. A specialized graphic package highlights all the areas that need highlighting, while an RTR windscreen banner tells other road users this is no ordinary pony.

The cabin of the car gets treated to a makeover, with RTR fitting new floor mats and the RTR leather interior package, while a serialized dash plaque signed by Gittin Jr. himself adds a touch of flair.

Every Spec 5 build will be commissioned through the Built by RTR program or by an authorized RTR Vehicles upfitter.
