Rivian R1T With Dual Motors And Large Battery Starts Reaching Customers

Rivian's improving production rate is reaping rewards, with reports emerging online that the Dual-MotorR1Twith the large battery packs has started reaching customers; multiple trucks in this configuration have popped up in the brand's online shop.

Since launch, the Rivian pickup has been offered in a limited number of configurations, and it's big news that the dual-motor version with the large battery has finally materialized. Only a day ago, one user onRedditreported the delivery of a new Performance Dual-Motor R1T with the large battery after having placed a deposit as recently as August 16th. This particular example was finished in Canyon Red paint. The invite-only Rivian online shop also has over 100 Dual-Motor R1Ts, according to a user onRivian Forums.

In the R1 shop, Dual-Motor variants of the electric pickup began appearing in July. According toElectrek, a Rivian spokesperson said that buyers "within a serviceable area from a Rivian Service Center will get access to R1 Shop where they will be able to browse ready-to-go configurations." The shop currently lists waiting periods of between three and six weeks and prices that start from $70,000.

On a single charge, the R1Ts with dual motors and the large battery have anEPA-rated range of 352 miles, dropping to 341 miles when 22-inch wheels are equipped. The normal Dual-Motor has 533 horsepower and a 0-60 mph time of 4.5 seconds, while the Performance Dual-Motor makes 665 hp and will rip to 60 in only 3.5 seconds.

With the Dual-Motor Max Pack configuration (yet to be made available), the R1T has arange of over 400 miles, an exemplary rating for a large pickup, and a number that outperforms theFord F-150 Lightningeasily.

Although Rivian fell just short of its production target last year, the company has made great strides in 2023. The EV maker raised its annual production forecast in August from 50,000 initially to 52,000. This new influx of Dual-Motor R1Ts supports that decision. Like Tesla,Rivian chose to build its motors in-house, and that seems to have had a positive effect on ramping up production. The smallest battery pack will become available in 2024, further broadening the appeal of the R1T range, and we hope to hear that deliveries of Dual-MotorR1SSUVs will begin soon, too.
