Rivian's Dual-Motor Models Get EPA-Estimated Range Figures

Electric Vehicles /Comments

Buyers can look forward to as much as 352 miles on a single charge.

The official EPA range and efficiency estimates for theRivian R1Tand R1S Dual-Motor models have been revealed, giving owners an idea of what they can expect from their electric trucks and SUVs.

Let's briefly look at these derivatives before we get into the official figures. Rivian'sin-house-developed Enduro motorspower the regular Dual-Motor and Dual-Motor Performance models. With an electric motor positioned on the front and rear axles, this design is cheaper to produce and requires fewer semiconductors than the Bosch-supplied motors.

The 2023 R1T Dual-Motor and Dual-Motor Performance variants with 21-inch wheels can travel 352 miles on a single charge. Equip 22-inch wheels to either vehicle, and the range plummets to an estimated 341 miles.

Often, the sportier vehicles in an EV lineup must sacrifice range for acceleration, but that's not the case here.

Regarding efficiency, R1T Dual-Motor models with 21-inch wheels are rated at 82/74/78 MPGe on the city/highway/combined cycles. With 22-inch wheels, this is reduced to 80/71/76 MPGe.

It's the same story for theR1S SUV. Equipped with 21-inch wheels, the Dual-Motor and Dual-Motor Performance achieve an estimated 352-mile range. This falls to 341 miles with the 22-inch wheel option. However, if you option the 20-inch wheels with all-terrain tires, you can expect a maximum range of 307 miles.

Electricity consumption sits at 82/74/78 MPGe for the R1S w/21-inch wheels, 80/71/75 w/22-inch wheels, and 72/64/68 with 20-inch wheels and all-terrain tires. It's important to remember thatthese are merely estimates; range figures will differ from driver to driver and will also be affected by external factors such as traffic, driving patterns, weather, and temperature.

一个few months back, leaked EPA documentation suggested the Dual-Motor Rivian vehicles will havea maximum range of 348 miles, so it's a pleasant surprise to see the lineup receive even stronger EPA-certified results.

Rivian initially claimed that the Dual-Motor model would produce 600 horsepower, with the Dual-Motor offering up an additional 100 horses over the base R1T. It appearsthe automaker was a tad optimistic, as the Dual-Motor AWD has outputs of 533 hp and 610 lb-ft of torque.

Despite this power deficit, the 0 to 60 mph acceleration time remains the same (4.5 seconds). The Performance was estimated to have 700 ponies; the official website now says 665 hp.CarBuzzreached out to Rivian a few weeks ago to query this. We are yet to receive a reply.
