Both are still fighting for second place, though.
With the recent launches of all-new versions of theRam 1500, Chevrolet Silverado, andFord F-150, the ongoing pickup truck wars are intensifying. Traditionally, the Ford F-150 dominates the segment and continues to be one of the best-selling vehicles of all time, leaving Chevrolet and Ram to fight for the number two spot in the pickup truck sales wars. Last year, the redesigned Ram 1500 overtook theChevrolet Silveradoto become thesecond-best-selling truck in the USfor the first time in its model history.
Currently, the Chevrolet Silverado is on track to regain the number two spot in 2020, but Ram is rapidly catching up judging from Q3 sales figures released by both manufacturers.
In Q3 2020, Ram 1500 deliveries were down by 3.4 percent with 156,157 pickups sold. Chevrolet, on the other hand, sold 145,525 Silverado units in Q3 2020, representing a sharper 5.4 percent drop. The Silverado's year-to-date sales are still beating the Ram by around 7,500 units, but the gap is starting to narrow. Both automakers have been struggling with inventory shortages amid factory closures caused by the global pandemic, so it will be interesting to see which truck takes the sales crown.
Since its debut for the 2019 model year, the redesigned Ram 1500 has been a formidable rival to the Silverado thanks to its more luxurious interior and upgraded tech including a class-leading 12-inch display.
The reveal of the hardcore Hemi-poweredRam 1500 TRXhas also generated a lot of publicity for the truck manufacturer since it's significantly more powerful than the Ford F-150 Raptor, so it will be interesting to see how it will affect the truck's sales. Can the Chevrolet Silverado fend off its rival, or will the Ram 1500 become America's second best-selling truck for the second year in a row? We'll find out when both automakers release their 2020 sales reports early next year.
