Porsche Hasn't Brought 917s Together Like This In Decades

As if those weren't enough, 917-001 (in white and green) and 917/30-001 (in Sunoco blue and yellow) are joined at the famous British racing ground by a short-tail 917 KH in iconic Gulf livery of baby blue and orange, and another 917/30 with an extended wheelbase in rainbow-striped teal. And as you can see from the video above, a fifth spyder in red joined in on the action as well.

Seeing five of these in the same place is particularly impressive when you consider that Porsche only made 37 of them in the first place, cementing Porsche's history in motor racing.

Immortalized in Steve McQueen's cult-classic film, the 917 is the vehicle in which Porsche won the first two of its record nineteen victories in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The open-cockpit version also won the Can-Am title two years running.

The assembly of these four on the same storied circuit represents one of the most spectacular gathering of 917s since they first dominated sports endurance racing in the late 1960s and early 1970s – the most memorable, at least, since it celebrated its 40th anniversary at the same location for the Festival of Speed a decade ago.
