This is the purest distillation of 911 performance to celebrate sixty years of an icon.

  • Celebrates 60 years of Porsche 911
  • 4.0-liter naturally aspirated flat-six from 911 GT3 RS (518 hp/342 lb-ft)
  • Six-speed manual gearbox with shorter ratios, lightweight clutch, and single-mass flywheel
  • Lightweight carbon fiber bodywork creates lightest 992-generation 911
  • Limited to 1,963 units at $290,000 each

Porsche has taken the covers off of a new 911 S/T to celebrate 60 years of the 911, and this is a special edition worth getting excited about. Possibly the ultimate Frankenstein mash-up of Porsche 911 parts, the 911 S/T gets the 4.0-liter naturally-aspirated flat-six from the911 GT3 RS(518 horsepower/342 lb-ft of torque) paired with a six-speed manual from the regular GT3, but with shorter ratios, a lightweight clutch, and a single-mass flywheel so you get to row through them often.

If that recipe wasn't special enough, the 911 S/T is the lightest of all the 992 generation cars, tipping the scales at 3,056 lbs. Porsche ties it all together with styling similar to that of the 911 Sport Classic, with an optional Heritage Design Package emphasizing the 1960s aesthetic with styling cues from the original 911 S.

Signifying the year the 911 was born, just 1,963 will be produced, each priced from $290,000 in the US.

The emphasis in the 911 S/T is on agility and engagement, which is why weight has been saved from every possible rotating assembly, from the lightweight clutch and single-mass flywheel to the lightweight centerlock magnesium wheels, which measure 20 inches up front and 21 inches at the rear. The flywheel and lightweight clutch save 23 lbs, making the 9,000-rpm engine rev even more frantically, while the shorter ratios ensure the manual shifter gets used continually.

Other weight reduction measures include a lithium-ion starter battery, lightweight glass, and reduced insulation, while the hood, roof, front fenders, and doors are fashioned from carbon fiber-reinforced plastic, the same material used to fashion the rear stabilizer bar and shear panel, saving 70 lbs over a manual 911 GT3 Touring.

0-60 mph takes 3.5 seconds, and it'll hit 186 mph in a straight line, all while the Sport Exhaust system sings a song 60 years in the making.

In addition to its light weighting, the 911 S/T's handling has been further enhanced with a suspension setup unique amongst all 992s as the only variant of this generation to feature double-wishbone front and multilink rear suspensionwithoutrear-axle steering. Unique damper and control system programming accompanies this setup, while sticky Z-rated Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires (255/35 front and 315/30 rear) help maximize grip, and Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes bring you to a halt.

Despite the immense performance, its aerodynamics have been focused on road use, including a Gurney flap on the extending rear spoiler.

Retro Style

The restrained styling of the 911 S/T is particularly elegant, eschewing large wings despite its Porsche GT underpinnings. The details are subtle, like the rear mesh grille over the engine bay with an accompanying badge to indicate the 60th anniversary of the 911.

If you wish to stand out a little more, the Heritage Design package unlocks the Shore Blue Metallic paint you see here with Ceramica-colored wheels. Buyers can opt for a racing number from 0 to 99 to be applied to the sides, and the nose, wheels, steering wheel, and key all receive theoriginal Porsche crestfrom the very first 911. The model designation is finished in gold.

Inside, classic nods meet contemporary style with carbon fiber bucket seats (optional four-way adjustable Sports Seat Plus) upholstered in a combination of cloth and leather, finished in Classic Cognac with black pinstriping (Heritage Design only); a colorway continued throughout the interior. Perforated Dinamica is found on the headliner, with smaller details from Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur making each car extra special.

The final detail is the classic green Porsche color scheme found on the instrument cluster and clock of the Chrono package.

Instant Icon Status

This year, Porsche is celebrating60 years of the 911 and 75 years of Porsche, and it's pulling out all the stops to ensure this alignment of anniversaries is nothing short of spectacular. We've already seen bespoke commissions tocelebrate early Le Mans victories, and the Mission X concept was revealed, previewing the future of the brand. But with the confirmation that the 911 will remaincombustion-powered for as long as possible,我们可以感到一丝宽慰,这911 S / Tis not some final farewell but a genuine celebration of an icon of the automotive world.

Sadly, for those who can't secure an initial allocation, your chances of ever owning one of these are next to nil. With guaranteed icon status from the moment it was revealed, any models relinquished to the secondhand market will likely double, triple, or even quadruple in price. Think of this as another 911 R, only this time, Porsche won't release a series-production equivalent in three years' time.
