And it's going to go very, very sideways!

日产has officially teased a Nismo version of the日产Zsports car with a new video on the automaker's YouTube channel showing the high-performance variant going very sideways.

In the 44-second clip, pro drifter Chris Forsbergis seen looking at the twin-turbo V6 engine before he slams the hood, dons a helmet, and fires up the Z Nismo, sending it sideways in a cloud of tire smoke.

The teaser withholds next to nothing, not only confirming the Z Nismo's existence but giving us a good look at its visual upgrades. But what's missing from this soft reveal is what really captures the imagination.

Outside, there's a new front bumper, side skirts, and a rear diffuser, all trimmed with red accents, the same hue found on the wing mirrors, too. The front bumper ditches the gaping rectangular grille of the standard Z in favor of something more shapely, but it's not the same dual-opening grille seen previously on Japan'sFairlady Z Customized Proto.

A set of nine-spoke alloy wheels in gloss black - presumably RAYS wheels, given the historic partnership between Nismo models and the Japanese wheel manufacturer - is shod in Dunlop SP Sport Maxx rubber.

The fenders appear to be widened with subtle lip extensions, while the rear of the Z Nismo features a prominent trunk lid spoiler - three pieces compared to the single-piece item on the normal Z. A centrally-located Nismo badge is housed above a more prominent rear diffuser, which boasts two exhaust outlets.

Inside the cabin, a new set of Recaro seats is finished in red and black with Nismo logos embroidered into the headrests. The steering wheel now features a red 12 o'clock marker, and the digital instrumentation has been updated for the Z Nismo, with a new Nismo logo at start-up - courtesy of a red stop-start button - and bespoke graphics. We see the car in Sport+ mode with its redline at 7,000 rpm (the same as the standard model).

The car Forsberg is seen drifting in the teaser has paddle shifters behind the steering wheel, meaning it features the nine-speed automatic transmission. Whether this will be the only option on the Nismo remains to be seen, but we're hopeful the six-speed manual withrev-matchingwill also be available.

While no performance details have been given, we know a few things. This is still powered by the same VR30DDTT twin-turbo V6 from the standard Z, but we're expecting a power bump of at least 20 horsepower over the current 400 hp and 350 lb-ft of torque. Nissan execs previously stated the car "can handle more power."

To pull off the smoky slides shown in the teaser, there is no doubt it has a limited-slip differential, which isstandard on the Performanceand Proto Spec trims of the regular Z. The strut tower brace in the engine bay appears to be the same as the regular Z's, but we have no doubt there will be enhancements to the suspension with new dampers and possibly even larger brakes.

As Nissan puts it, this is a pre-production prototype, so some things may change between now and the final production spec sports car's reveal, which Nissan promises will be later this summer.
