Nissan Issues Mass Recall For 1.4 Million Cars

The global recall covers many models, with several affecting US models.

Nissan will be issuing a global recall of approximately 1.38 million vehicles, a spokesperson confirmed toBloomberg. The recall will impact several models, including the Note, Kicks, Serena, andLeaf, and is set to affect vehicles in the US, Europe, and Japan. The decision comes after the company discovered various issues that could pose potential risks to drivers and passengers.

Among the mentioned vehicles, only theNissan Kicksand Leaf are currently sold in the US.

One of the problems cited was sudden acceleration when cruise control is turned off. There's also an issue involving short circuits, which cause motors to stop functioning while driving, posing serious safety hazards on the road.

As to which vehicle is affected by each issue, along with the specific model years, remains unknown. The report also failed to point out the number of affected cars per region, except for the 6,400 Note Aura units in Japan recalled for headlamp problems. Thankfully, Bloomberg reports no accidents connected to the said problems.

At the time of writing, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has yet to issue a recall connected to these cars and/or issues.

This will be the first major recall for the Kicks. The last recall for the small crossover was in 2019 when Nissan had to fix issues with reverse camera displays - a similar problemBMW had to facein the same year. Nearly 1.3 million Nissan vehicles were affected by this issue, including the Leaf.

Meanwhile, the Leaf has faced different recalls before, most recently due to corrosion in the brake fluid line that could cause leaks, affecting braking performance. Other past problems include faulty brake relay, passenger airbag not deploying, and incorrect information on the owner's manual.
