Next-Generation BMW X2 Crossover Coupe Will Debut Soon

Teaser /6 Comments

And BMW says it will be "eXciting."

BMW and its head designer, Domagoj Dukec, posted on Instagram that "something exciting is coming." They capitalized the x in "eXcited" as a pun, but we digress.

Though the teaser video doesn't specifically mention the model, it's very clearly the2024 BMW X2. This should come as no surprise, given that we've spotted BMWtesting prototypes dating back to last year.

The teaser is brief but shows two silhouetted angles of the next-generation X2. From the side profile, it appears the rumors of the X2growing in sizecompared to the previous model were accurate. The rear end slopes down like an X4 with a little lip spoiler on the trunk.

Things get even more interesting when the car rotates, revealing the front end.

BMW hinted that the X2 would resemble a "baby XM," and we finally know what the company meant by that.

Like the XM, the X2 will have LED lights around the kidney grille, giving it a unique signature at night. Two simple LED light markers in each headlight complete the lighting signature and are distinctly different from the ones on the X1. Not much else of the front end is visible in the teaser, but we know from spy shots that the X2 will have agrille that resembles a smile.

Speaking of the X1, the X2 will likely share engines with its more conventional sibling. An xDrive28i model should match the X1 on output with 241 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque going out through a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.

BMW recentlyrevealed a hotter M35i variantof the X1, which dials the output up to 312 hp and with the same amount of torque. It would be shocking if the X2 doesn't receive an M Performance variant, too.

欧洲将得到一系列天然气和柴油发动机that won't be sold stateside, and BMW is also working on an electric iX2 variantthat will be for Europe only.

Inside, the X2 should be very similar to the current X1 with the newest version of BMW's iDrive operating system. In the X1, iDrive ditches the rotating knob in favor of all-touchscreen controls. This change frees up the center console for more space.

Expect the 2024 BMW X2 to be revealed before the end of this year.
