New Lamborghini Teaser Looks Like An All-New Estoque

Teaser /4 Comments

Is it an SUV? A sedan? We know it's an EV, and the concept debuts on August 18 at Monterey Car Week.

We've been given our first glimpse of an all-electric Lamborghini before its reveal later this week at Monterey Car Week after Lamborghiniconfirmed the news last weekthat we'd see a prototype of the first-ever Lamborghini EV.

The Italian marque teased the side profile of the car across its social media platforms and on itscustomer-facing website, showcasing a swooping roofline of a 2+2 grand tourer, captioning the posts with: "Something new and truly thrilling is about to be unveiled. August 18th. Save the date."

Lamborghini mentioned nothing specific about the vehicle, but you'd have to have a big Lamborghini-sized blind spot not to notice more than a passing resemblance to the Lamborghini Estoque concept of 2008. You can compare the two side by side in the images below. See the resemblance?

There are minor differences between the two, as the hood of the new prototype appears shorter and more sharply raked. That's because instead of the front-mounted 5.2-liter V10 of the original concept - which was the first front-engined Lamborghini since the LM002 SUV - the new car will be electric, giving Lamborghini designers the freedom to play with the proportions.

However, we can't deny the stark similarity between their greenhouses, particularly by the C-pillar, telling us that Lamborghini could be looking at the old design for its upcoming EV.

The original concept was originally slated for production but was ultimately canned due to financial limitations. But since the automaker is now racking uprecord-breaking profitsthanks to the Urus, Lamborghini now has all the space to invest in developing the four-door into reality.

We've also known since the first announcement of an electric Lamborghini that it would take on the shape of a 2+2 grand tourer.

The upcoming EV will join theRevueltoin the lineup of plug-in Lamborghinis. The hot-selling Urus and theHuracan successorwill follow suit, both currently in development.

However, per the automaker's previous announcement, the EV will not be sold in bulk like the Urus. Rather, it will be "few-off" that only the privileged clientele can attain.

"In more recent years, the designation changed from "one-off" to a category created specially by Lamborghini: "few-offs," essentially a limited run of cars for the most loyal customers that pre-empt or enhance the most advanced technical solutions that will be used on production cars in later years. The same formula will be repeated in just a few days at Monterey Car Week in California, where Automobili Lamborghini will present the prototype of its first 100% electric car," Lamborghini said in the statement.

August 18 can't come soon enough.
