Driver looks perfect for the role.

A Ferrari movie has been rumored for several years now, with a handful of actors rumored to play the role of Enzo.

Oscar-winnerChristian Bale was initially set to play the Italian legend, but rumors suggest he couldn't gain enough weight for the film.Hugh Jackman was also mentioned, butAdam Driver ultimately ended up being castin the role.

The biopic will be titledFerrari, directed by Michael Mann. Mann has experience producing films featuring Enzo Ferrari, having previously served as the producer forFord v Ferrari. Unlike that film, Ferrari will serve as the protagonist rather than a temporary foil for Ford.

The first photos from the set have been revealed (pictured above), showing Driver fully in character as Ferrari. The film takes place in the summer of 1957, meaning Enzo was 59 years old when the story takes place. Adam Driver is only 38 years old as of this writing, but the makeup team has made him look older in these images.

We've included a few images of Enzo himself (pictured below) as a comparison to show how good Driver looks in the role. The dark black suit, black tie, and sunglasses mirror several historical images of the Ferrari founder, though Driver looks skinnier than Enzo did at the time.

This is not the first time Driver has played the founder of a major Italian brand, as the actor previously played Maurizio Gucci inHouse of Gucci.

The story will focus on the Ferrari's potential bankruptcy and Enzo's strained relationship with his wife, Laura Dominica Garello Ferrari. The two had a child named Alfredo "Dino" Ferrari, who tragically died of muscular dystrophy at the age of 24 in June 1956.

Enzo's wife will be played by Penelope Cruz, while Shailene Woodley will play his mistress, Lina Lardi, with whom he has a second son, Piero Lardi Ferrari, out of wedlock.

Piero will be played by formerGrey's Anatomyactor and real-life racing driver Patrick Dempsey.

In the film, Enzo bets his future on the Mille Miglia, a thousand-mile race across Italy. Piero wins the race without a navigator, and Ferrari scores a 1-2-3 finish.

Ferrariis set for a theatrical release in 2023, though an exact date has not been shared yet. The script is adapted from the Brock Yates book, 'Enzo Ferrari - The Man and the Machine.' After so many years of rumors surrounding this film, we are excited to see it in theaters next year. We expect excellent cinematography, a compelling story, and plenty of beautiful cars, but nothing modern like theFerrari Daytona SP3.
