Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 Coupe Spied For The First Time

年代py Shots /Comments

The hot SUV could pack as much as 671 hp.

Back in June, Mercedes-Benzrevealed the new GLC, and it was a big deal. Its predecessor was thebrand's best-selling modelover the last two years, making it one of the automaker's most important offerings. Available as a traditional crossover oras a so-called coupe, it offers plenty of choices too, but not to lovers of speed. Not yet, anyway. TheAMG GLC 63is yet to be launched, and our spy photographers have been keeping us up to date as testing and development continue, but we shouldn't have too much longer to wait for a full reveal, as new images show that the sporty crossover should be almost ready for a reveal.

As is AMG's custom, the hotter model gains the Panamericana grille with its square grille mesh. You can also see the four square exhaust tips at the rear, which indicate that we're looking at the range-topper (the GLC 53 gets a quartet of rounded pipes). Sporty wheels wrapped in Michelin tires and a subtle spoiler on the rear tailgate further point to the vehicle's increased performance, as do the large brake calipers, here appearing in red. So what will motivate this monster? Well, the days of the V8 are all but behind us, and it's expected that the GLC 63 will use a hybridized four-cylinder.

As with so many other AMG products revealed or yet to be launched, the V8 has been kicked out and replaced by a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder mated to an electric motor. Together, the setup produces 671 horsepower in the C63, which the GLC 63 shares a platform with. Power will go to all four wheels via an AMG Speedshift nine-speed automatic transmission, but with more weight than the C63, the powerful SUV shouldn't tread on its sedan sibling's toes.

As for a reveal date, we haven't been given much indication of when to expect the GLC 63 Coupe, but it's most likely that we'll see it revealed next year as a 2024 model.
