McLaren GT Caught Testing At Nurburgring Raises Questions

It's the real deal and can be used as a grand tourer and a track toy. But what we're wondering is why this GT is covered in camouflage? It's not like the world hasn't seen the final design. There are a couple of theories behind McLaren's decision here. The first and more likely reason is that McLaren is testing out a new active aero package and/or other performance enhancements.

The other possibility is this isn't a McLaren GT at all, but rather a testbed for something else, such as thenext-generation Sports Series.

This 570S successor will ride on the company'sall-new ultra-lightweight architecturedesigned to accommodate electrification and, eventually, an all-electric model. But this McLaren sounds awfully like other models also powered by the 4.0 V8, so we kind of doubt there's a hybrid system packed in there. We'll hopefully have some official answers soon enough.

Despite some setbacks resulting from the coronavirus pandemic, McLaren still aims to launch18 new models and variantswithin the next few years. There's a strong possibility this GT prototype is one of those variants.
