But tall adults aren't going to be very comfortable crammed into the third row.

If you're looking for a spacious seven-seaterKia SUVto accommodate a large family, you have a choice between the mid-sizeSorento, which was redesigned for the 2021 model year, and the flagshipTelluridein the US. Outside of the US, however, there's now an affordable, smaller alternative.

Last year, Kiaintroduced the Sonet, a stylish subcompact SUVdesigned for the Indian market. While it's not sold in the US, it's based on theHyundai Venue. For the 2021 model year, the Kia Sonet is now offered with up to seven seats in Indonesia, despite its tiny size. To accommodate the extra seats, the new seven-seat Sonet was extended by 4.92 inches, increasing the total length to 4.92 inches.

The remaining dimensions remain identical, measuring 188.5 inches wide and 64.6 inches high, with a 98.4-inch wheelbase.

The regular Sonet's sharp styling also carries over, retaining Kia's signature tiger-nose grille, LED daytime running lights, and full-width taillights. Inside, the trunk space has been compromised to fit a third row of seats and the second row seats are now split-folding to provide access to the third row. The middle seats can also slide forward, but the legroom in the third row still looks limited for taller adults, making it more suitable for small children.

Standard interior equipment includes an eight-inch touchscreen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support, a wireless phone charger, ventilated front seats, and an electric sunroof.

Under the hood, the Sonet seven-seater packs a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated gasoline engine producing 115 hp and 84 lb-ft of torque, paired with either a six-speed manual or a continuously variable transmission. This is the only engine option available for the Sonet seven-seat, whereas the Indian Sonet is available with a 1.2 gasoline, 1.5 diesel or 1.0-liter turbo engine. Currently, Kia has no plans to sell the Sonet seven-seater outside of Indonesia.
