Introducing The Updated 2018 Ford Mustang

The power boost was achieved by a new dual-fuel, high-pressure direct injection and low-pressure port fuel injection system, delivering robust low-end torque, high rpm power, and improved fuel efficiency. The six-speed manual gearbox also remains for both engines, and it too has been upgraded for optimal torque for the turbo four. But for the V8, Ford says the manual has been redesigned to include a twin-disc clutch and dual-mass flywheel to increase torque capability and deliver more efficient clutch modulation. Cool. What's also new for both engines is a 10-speed automatic, replacing the old six-speed slushbox. Expect to see it deliver higher average power for acceleration, thus improving responsiveness and performance.

Also, for the first time, the Mustang lineup features all-LED front lights including signature lighting, low-beams, turn signals, projector high-beams, and optional fog lamps. The taillights also receive revised LEDs. The front bumper is new, providing an edgier look that, at least for us, will take some getting used to. EcoBoost-powered Mustangs come standard with dual exhaust while all V8 models feature quad-exhaust. Along with dozens of wheel designs, there are some new exterior paint colors, including Orange Fury (pictured here, we presume). Step inside and immediately things look familiar but a closer looks indicates otherwise.

The center console, for example, has a new hand-stitched wrap with contrast stitching and padded knee bolsters. The door handles, rings and bezels are finished in aluminum, while the seats have new patterns and color options. As for the instrument panel, there's an updated Mustang badge, new key fob design, and optional heated steering wheel. Some new tech features are the optional 12-inch all-digital LCD screen that's fully customizable and offers three separate views. Drivers can even personalize the displays for Normal, Sport, and Track modes. Ford's new Sync 3 infotainment and NAV system will also grace the screen with the FordPass smartphone app.

Heck, even the engine note can be adjusted thanks to an also new and optional active valve exhaust system on the Mustang GT. Safety features include Pre-Collision Assist, distance alert, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist and Driver Alert System. Pricing hasn't been announced but Ford says we can expect to see the facelifted 2018 Mustang lineup arrive in dealerships in the US this fall.
