Infiniti QX60 Police Chase Causes Mayhem In Florida

This could have been bad.

When one thinks of high-speed police pursuits, images of rattyFord MustangsandF-150 pickupsusually come to mind. The last thing you'd expect to see would be a mild-manneredInfiniti QX60barreling down the highway and ramming into cop cars. We love agood car chase video, and this is one of the best ones we've seen in a while.

This ended in spectacular fashion on Interstate 95 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida (where else?), on Wednesday when five teenagers fled the scene of an attempted car-jacking. The Sky News helicopter was above the scene around 8 a.m. and caught the teenager's epic chase coming to an abrupt end.

According to Fort Lauderdale police spokeswoman Casey Liening, the chase started when officers were called to the scene of a home burglary in the 2200 block of Northeast 28th Avenue. The five suspects were seen trying to steal another car when police gave chase. From the get-go this was a seriously dangerous chance: the suspects at one stage hit a bicyclist, who was treated with minor injuries, after which they made their way onto the interstate. In the video, the group is seen ducking and diving through peak morning traffic.

The epic chase comes to an end when the driver of the Infiniti clips the side of a Honda CR-V SUV and loses control. The QX60 is seen sliding across the freeway where it eventually hits a divider, which flips the car on its roof. To add insult to injury, a cop car then dangerously rams the Infiniti for good measure right as the suspects try to exit the vehicle.

It is amazing that everyone involved made it out alive. According to the Bureau of Justice Statistics, police chases have led to the deaths of 7,000 Americans from 1995 to 2015. The fact that these chases get so much media coverage could be fueling a very dangerous fire, but then again, yeehaw!
