Iconic Ford GT40 Gets First Electric Powertrain

Superformance has been around for 25 years or so, and is best known for distributingContinuation Shelby Cobras, Daytonas, GT40s and rolling chassis replicas. But like all manufacturers big and small, it sees the writing on the wall. The legendary hot rod company has joined forces with bespoke electric car maker Everatti, and the pair, along with Safir GT40, is going to create a classicFord GTwith an electric powertrain.

Everrati has already done this on several iconic autos including their own electricMercedes-Benz SL W113 Pagoda, Porsche 911 (964) Coupe, Targa, and Convertible including Limited Edition models such as the officially licensed Gulf Signature Edition and Land Rover Series IIA. You could say the company is an expert in EV conversions.

We aim to create the best electric driver's cars while, at the same time, future-proofing these true past masters."

You probably know the basic story of the GT40. It was built by Ford in the '60s with help from Carroll Shelby to beat Ferrari at Le Mans. The battle was stylized a few years ago in the feature filmaptly named Ford v. Ferrari. It featured a 7.0-liter V8 making about 485 hp, before downsizing to 4.9 liters to fit into its racing class. It's going to need a lot of electric motor to match that output. ThePorsche 964 Everatti createdmakes 500 hp and features a 53-kWh battery. The GT is a little bigger, so maybe a bigger battery is in order.
