Electric conversion specialist Everatti joins with purveyor of hot rod Shelbys.

Superformance has been around for 25 years or so, and is best known for distributingContinuation Shelby Cobras, Daytonas, GT40s and rolling chassis replicas. But like all manufacturers big and small, it sees the writing on the wall. The legendary hot rod company has joined forces with bespoke electric car maker Everatti, and the pair, along with Safir GT40, is going to create a classicFord GTwith an electric powertrain.

Everrati has already done this on several iconic autos including their own electricMercedes-Benz SL W113 Pagoda, Porsche 911 (964) Coupe, Targa, and Convertible including Limited Edition models such as the officially licensed Gulf Signature Edition and Land Rover Series IIA. You could say the company is an expert in EV conversions.

"This is the perfect partnership. The sole focus of both Everrati and Superformance is iconic cars and Lance and his team are THE guys when it comes to authorized continuation chassis of some of the most legendary cars in history," said Justin Lunny, founder and CEO, Everrati. "Marrying these chassis with our advanced EV powertrains and precision engineering will enhance performance while keeping the essence and soul of the original. We aim to create the best electric driver's cars while, at the same time, future-proofing these true past masters."

You probably know the basic story of the GT40. It was built by Ford in the '60s with help from Carroll Shelby to beat Ferrari at Le Mans. The battle was stylized a few years ago in the feature filmaptly named Ford v. Ferrari. It featured a 7.0-liter V8 making about 485 hp, before downsizing to 4.9 liters to fit into its racing class. It's going to need a lot of electric motor to match that output. ThePorsche 964 Everatti createdmakes 500 hp and features a 53-kWh battery. The GT is a little bigger, so maybe a bigger battery is in order.

The first development model of the GT40 EV is underway as a prototype chassis has already been built. Adapting it to an EV takes time, as Everatti is looking at battery location and weight distribution at its location in Upper Heyford in the English Cotswolds, hoping to both maintain and enhance the character of the original.

"While I will always love a V8-powered vehicle, there is no doubting the ultra-high performance of Everrati's advanced EV powertrains," said Lance Stander, CEO, Superformance. "I am genuinely impressed with the lengths to which Everrati goes to maintain the weight distribution and character of the original car. Electrification is the future in so many ways and adds another option for those who love classic sports cars."

We've contacted Everatti about the price of the new vehicle and to find out how much power it will officially make. Superformance's current gasoline-powered MK II GT40 (with a 427 V8) starts at $125,000. We'll update when we hear back.
