High-Performance Volkswagen ID.4 GTX Spied For The First Time

TheVolkswagen ID.41st Edition will be the first ofseveral variantsof VW's electric crossover coming to the US. After the 1st Edition, VW will launch the ID.4 Pro available with RWD or AWD. If rumors are to be believed, VW is also cooking up a newhigh-performance GTX rangethat will be theEV equivalent of VW's fabled GTI badge.

Testing for VW's new hot ID.4 appears to have already begun because our spies have caught the German automaker testing two prototypes with some noticeable styling changes. The LED headlights are partially covered up and have a different design to the regular ID.4.

Elsewhere, the high-performance crossover is expected to feature more aggressive bumpers and new wheel designs with performance-focused tires to set it apart from the regular ID.4. An upgraded chassis will also lower the ride height and the interior will feature unique trims.

As for the performance, the ID.4 GTX will utilize a dual motor setup, with one motor powering the front wheels and another powering the rear wheels to produce a combined 302 horsepower. That's a massive improvement over the regular ID.4, which produces 201 hp and 228 lb-ft of torque from a single motor. As a result, the GTX variant will accelerate from 0-62 mph in just 6.2 seconds, beating the sprint time of the ID.4 Pro Performance by over two seconds.
