Here's Your New And Now Turbo Only Porsche 911

Revealed online just ahead of its live debut at Frankfurt next week, Porsche has released the first official details and photos of its facelifted 911. And as we fully expected, its entire engine lineup is now turbocharged. Here's what you need to know: Both the base Carrera and Carrera S are now powered by twin-turbo 3.0-liter flat-sixes with 370 hp and 331 lb-ft of torque, and 420 hp and 368 lb-ft, respectively. That's a 20 hp and 44 lb-ft boost over the previous models. Essentially, power is up and displacement is down.

Porsche proudly claims that familiar 911 engine sound is still very much there. The Carrera S is now 10 seconds faster than before on the North Loop of the Nurburgring at 7 minutes and 30 seconds. The reason for going turbo? To reduce fuel consumption. Porsche says both models are 12 percent more efficient than their predecessors. Performance wise, the Carrera Coupe, paired with the familiar PDK gearbox, can make the sprint from 0-62 mph in 4.2 seconds and a top speed of 183 mph, while the Carrera S Coupe accomplishes this in 3.9 seconds and tops out at 191 mph. Fortunately, the seven-speed manual remains standard. Buyers can also opt for the familiar Sport Chrono package.
