Gran Turismo 7 May Have Leaked The Nissan Z's Weight Figure

Leaked /9 Comments

The racing simulator seeks to be as accurate as possible, but if it is, the new Z is a bit of a porker.

When it comes to putting a car into a realism-focused racing game such asGran TurismoorForza Motorsport,开发人员需要时间ther crucial measurements and details of real-life cars. The process consists of a resource and time-heavy laser scanning routine used to develop a wireframe design.

Measurements of the chassis and engine components are then applied to the digital model so that the appropriate performance and handling characteristics can be translated when you drive the car in the game. Given that a car's curb weight plays such a big role in its handling characteristics, it's also very important that an accurate figure is translated into the digital world if you want to make the car feel as realistic as possible. How does this relate to theNissan Z? Well,Gran Turismo 7might just have let slip the sports car's weight.

So far, the manufacturer has given us almost every claimed figure for its highly anticipated sports car including the power output from its engine and overall dimensions, but what we don't know yet is how much the sports car weighs. In therecently released Gran Turismo 7, the production model makes its appearance inZ Performance guise.

Here we see that the game lists everything from its engine displacement to the peak power rpm but what we also see is a weight figure of 1,543 kg, which is just under 3,402 pounds. Unfortunately, it is not clear whether this refers to its fully loaded curb or dry weight figure but it is likely that this is the automatic trim because that is what the in-game model has been based on. If this weight figure is true, that would make the Z a touch heavier than Toyota's claimed 3,397-pound curb mass for the GR Supra 3.0.Gran Turismolists the Supra's weight as 3,374 pounds which is pretty accurate.

This is an interesting revelation but let's consider thatGT7's lengthy development period that spans beyond 2020 could have sourced figures from the Z Proto Concept car in a bid to get the car added to its roster sooner. The Z Proto hasalready been added toProject Cars 3with a claimed weight of 3,252 lbs butGran Turismo 7will be the first time that the production Z is added to a game. If this is the case, we can assume that Nissan provided the production-ready model beforehand or simply divulged the mass figure after the fact.

Based on a leaked presentation slide from a local dealership, we know that the Japanese sports car mayhit the market in Junethis year. This will be predated by media drives in April and a series of field meetings in May. Production starts this month. That means it's not long now before we see if these curb weights are true.
